Mallorca V Majorca

We took a little trip to one of the Balearic Islands called Mallorca.  It seems that the British could not wrap their heads around the fact that a double l in Spanish creates a Y sound, so the Brits decided it should be spelled with a J. No matter the spelling.  It is gorgeous

Good Morning!

We stayed at Es Revellar Art Resort.  It felt much like what I imagine a compound the feel like.  A compound in the middle of nowhere that is hidden behind large walls with a large gate and quite a bit of art installations both in the rooms and in the gardens.  One of the more interesting places we stayed.  It is 600 years old.

Door to our digs

We had room for more

I always felt like we were being watched

a garden of totem poles

They don't have much to say
We took a drive up a very windy mountain, apparently, there are some who like to ride a bicycle up.

Again, being earlier risers, we were able to view without so many others
San Salvador

It is so hard to imagine how anything at all was built on this mountain

Time to push up north along the coast

We had lunch (clearly not here) at a place in Arta.  We ordered from the tapas menu so we could be sure to get as many tastes possible.  We also ordered a glass of wine for the two of us and a bottle of water. We received a bottle of wine and no water.  Emily told me that the Spanish don't drink water, instead they drink white wine. Maybe the guy in the above photo had too much water for lunch.  ** Side note ** I took this picture because the bicycle hanging in the cafe reminded us of Emily.  Napping man just happened to be there
Dinner spot. Patrick was pretty sure this was a Turkish restaurant as they had a Turkish flag.  The menu looked to be very Spanish.  "Maybe it is  the Spanish version of Turkish food" It turns out that every second week in May there is a festival celebrated in Soller in memory of an unsuccessful  assault  by Turkish pirates by Ulutx Ali that took place on 11 May 1561.
We stopped in some soggy weather and bought some wine in Mortritx
We were told that today was the first day they had rain in a month.  It created some dramatic views while we drove through the mountains stoping at little villages along the way.

Stormy weather makes for some good kite sailing!

We woke up early and hit the road .... the rain and clouds cleared!

We then travelled a bit more to find this beautiful spot call Deia.  Our friend Jo recommend that we stop here for lunch.  As it turns out, this is the restaurant that your man Hugh Laurie ate at in the scene from "Night Manager" - I highly recommend watching it.  And eating here.

Again, we were very lucky to have arrived early.  All the tables were booked, but.... the kitchen opens in a little bit and we have space for 2..... being a morning person does have its benefits for sure.

Stone walls like this one, lined the country

Hugh Laurie looks a lot like Patrick

The very best shrimp!

We decided to hike up a bit after lunch to see what we could sea!

Dinner date back at the compound
Patrick was very determined to find the beach used on the map cover

Success!

Pretty great way to start the day

Very secluded little cove. One must be determined to find it, hike a bit, and not worry about whether  the car is parked legally

Fishing nets in the fishing village

Beautiful yet intimidating  We noticed these cacti strategically placed, usually next to a fenced off compound/estate

It's always a good idea to park next to a fire extinguisher

I think this is where fruit cocktail originated

There is a first, and last, time for everything   Don't arrive at the airport hungry and don't buy beer at Burger King. Another good rule to follow, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
